Ok, so you’re starting to get about but you pretty much have a limited view on things with that 3rd person behind view.
There are a few ways you can see things differently – and each has their purposes. These below are the more common and handy ones:
In normal view mode – press “M” and your view will change to what your avatar would really see. This can be handy for getting around in narrow areas where the normal view would be blocked or hampered by walls, objects or avatars. Also used to control some vehicles, weapons and various devices that you either sit in or wear.
Now this one is very useful – a very handy one for those who build things but can also be used for increasing your view range to things that might be out of your current view range.
Hold the [ALT] button, Then you click and drag on any surface you see (prims/objects, land, avatars). Your view will “fixate” to whatever it is you clicked on and the mouse dragging will rotate and zoom around that focus point.
If you hold [ALT] and [CTRL] before you click and drag you will get a similar effect – however the zoom is replaced by up/down movement angles
While they might not be used as frequently – and you may have to go out and buy one as not all are free. They can be handy if you are into doing filming machinima and similar specific tasks.
It might take a bit to get the hang of their specific features and controls.
