Sooner or later you’re gonna find it hard to find things easily in your inventory (some of us have well over 20,000 items and growing..) So apart from browsing through the folders – there are other ways which will help you keep finding things quickly in the vast depths of your pockets.
At the top of the inventory window you’ll have a text box you can type into – enter a few letters or a keyword – and if anyhting is labelled with that combination (for example if you type in “shape”) then only the items with that combination will appear. To cancel the serch criteria and return to the normal inventory list – just click the tiny “X” within that text box to clear it’s details.
If you have picked up things recently into your inventory – a tab called “Recent Items” appears under the serch bar of the inventory window – some things may appear here. In order to find anything else that isn’t in your inventory – it can depend on what you are looking for. Here are a few resources you can use:
At the bottom of your screen should be a “Search” button. It works in much the say way you would search Google or Yahoo for stuff on the internet – but focuses on in-world things like people’s profiles, places, shops, objects at places, etc…
If you need to get a new item wether it’s a freebie or a sold item – chances are it’ll be advertised here. You can get all sorts of things from avatar bits and clothing to buildings, transportation and gadgets.
If you’ve picked up some things from places and want to go to where they are related to – some notecards may have landmarks – or you may have picked up a landmark. Often the landmarks will take you to the relevant location – like a main store for example or a related meeting place.
If you need to find out who put and object somewhere or who actually made it. There are a couple of ways to find out. Sometimes finding the name of who made something can be handy to then check their profiles for any picks that may indicate any shops they have or to IM them with a query in relation to the object.
Right clicking the object and selecting “Edit” will give you editing options – usually for building or customising. But if you check the general tab – it will tell who who made it (according to the root prim), who owns it and what group it’s been assigned to.
If you right-click and go More > More > Inspect – you will get a little window listing much the same as your edit menu – who made it and who who owns it – but for each and every object that’s linked. (some objects aren’t made solely by the one person).
